Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed worldwide, and this is also true at our practice. Whether you are a younger patient who desires larger breasts, or a mother who wishes to regain breast volume lost through pregnancy, breast augmentation can provide a significant impact for you. Dr. Heaton and his staff will work with you to address your unique goals and concerns throughout the breast augmentation process.
CHOICE OF IMPLANT
Choosing the breast implant that’s right for you is the most important decision you have to make when planning your breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Heaton will discuss the advantages of each type of implant with you. Generally, the decisions you must make include the type of breast implant (either silicone or saline), and the shape and size of the breast implant. All of these considerations are designed to provide you with the results you are looking for.
IMPLANT AND SCAR PLACEMENT
Whether to place the implant above or below the pectoralis muscle will depend on such factors as age, anatomy, vocation, and your own preference. Incisions also have key advantages and disadvantages, choosing between an incision under the breast (inframammary), or around the areola (circle around the nipple, or periareolar).
DAY OF SURGERY
Operations are performed at our private surgery site in Sarnia or at Stratford General Hospital. Surgery is performed under a general anaesthetic by our team of board-certified anesthesiologists and is completed as an outpatient procedure (which means you can go home the same day).
POSTOPERATIVE RECOVERY
Patients are seen one week after breast augmentation surgery, where the initial dressing is removed. Follow-up appointments after that may vary, but generally, will include the following week and again a month later. Discomfort usually lasts about a week following surgery, and strenuous activity should be avoided for a month after surgery.
