Liposuction is a very popular procedure to improve the contour of the body, removing fat cells in areas that are disproportionate to the rest of the body. This is not a procedure aimed at achieving weight loss, and thus it is ideal for patients at a healthy and stable weight. Results can also depend on the skin’s ability to tighten after liposuction, which is partly dependent on age and skin condition. In the instance of poor skin quality, skin tightening procedures may be necessary.
This procedure can vary greatly, based on the area where the liposuction is being performed and the amount of liposuction the patient is having. Common areas include the abdomen, flanks, thighs, and arms, in addition to the male chest and smaller areas, such as the neck.
DAY OF SURGERY
Operations are performed at our private surgical centre in Sarnia, Ontario. Surgery is performed either under local anaesthetic, or with sedation or a general anaesthetic by our team of Board Certified Anaesthesiologists. This depends on both the amount of liposuction, and patient factors. Usually, liposuction is completed as an outpatient (go home the same day).
POSTOPERATIVE RECOVERY
Patient follow up and recovery varies greatly for liposuction, depending on how extensive the procedure is. Postoperative garments are always used for comfort and swelling reduction. Activity varies on the extent of the procedure and postoperative course.
