ENJOY A SMOOTHER TEXTURE IMMEDIATELY WITH DERMAPLANING
Dermaplaning, also known as epi-leveling, was first used by doctors in the 1990′s as an exfoliation treatment. It provides an alternative to peels or microdermabrasion and is a good choice for anyone who has fine facial hair, extremely sensitive skin, redness or rosacea, or telangiectasia. Dermaplaning also allows for greater penetration of skincare products and creates a flawless surface for makeup to glide on smoothly. A noticeable improvement is immediate with smoother texture, fresh skin appearance, and a brighter complexion
THE DERMAPLANING PROCESS
The treatment is performed using a surgical blade to gently exfoliate dead skin cells in the Stratum Corneum, and removes the vellus hair, commonly known as “peach fuzz”, which can trap excess dirt and oil. Hair returns softly and will not become coarser or grow in thicker due to this treatment. Many women are often concerned that shaving peach fuzz will make it grow back heavier and darker, but that’s not the case. Superficial vellus hair will grow back at the same rate and with the same texture as it was before the treatment. There are no side effects and no downtime. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink, so wearing sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation is highly recommended.
THE IDEAL DERMAPLANING PATIENT
All skin types can benefit from dermaplaning. This is a great treatment for skin types IV-VI. Darker skin tones actually contain more layers of skin so, as those with darker skin tones age, the skin tends to sag rather than wrinkle. Dermaplaning removes these extra layers of skin, helps correct pigmentation concerns, and provides a more youthful and healthy glow.
This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the risk of harsh chemicals absorbing into the blood stream, potentially harming your baby.
Patients with active acne outbreaks or cold sores should not be treated until lesions are healed. Also, patients with bleeding disorders or with diabetes not under control by diet or medication should not be treated. If you’re undergoing cancer treatment, you should also not be treated.
Dermaplaning removes 21 days worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment.
